When the well-heeled and well-to-do of the French bourgeoisie wanted homes to impress, the classical elegance of a ‘Maison de Maitre’ like this was the grand design of the day. The 3-storey house is steeped in period style and has been completely renovated in recent years so up to 12 family and friends, plus infants, can stay in the lap of French luxury.
The authentic character of the house has been retained, from the imposing stone fireplace in the Grand Salon to traditional French furnishings, but Maison Duras has all mod cons too, including a Nespresso in the well equipped dining kitchen, American fridge freezer/ice maker, free Wi Fi and a games console. Everyone can come together to watch UK Freesat TV and DVD’s, or play board games, in the large and comfortable Grand Salon or children can escape to a lounge of their own on the top floor, where the games console awaits and another DVD player. Two master bedrooms are also on the top floor, with beautiful beamed ceilings and luxury ensuite bathrooms, while four other ensuite bedrooms are on the first floor.
Naturally the house is set in a generous, well-tended garden and the house has a commanding position, overlooking the hills and vineyards of the Bergerac winelands. What could be more civilised than a game of croquet or badminton on the lawn and reclining by the heated pool, which is alarmed and fenced. Children have plenty of space to play in the garden, complete with a swing set, and grownups can relax, with fine local wines to hand, on a patio of luxury outdoor furniture or the al fresco dining terrace for 12 which has a Weber BBQ.

Location Information
Maison Duras is surrounded by the hills and vineyards to the east of Bordeaux, in the heart of this world famous wine region. The medieval town of Duras is just 5 minute’s drive, with a good variety of shops, cafes and restaurants in the cobbled streets, a large chateau and a bustling market on Mondays.
Lots of vineyards close by offer tours and wine tastings, from the local Domaines to the big Bordeaux wine houses, including Montbazillac and St Emillion, which is a very pretty town to explore and a world heritage site. The entire area is filled with charming little market towns, with the picture perfect medieval town of Issigeac about 45mins away — don‘t miss Sunday brunch in the garden at Chez Alain but allow a leisurely 2-3 hours to do it justice!
The medieval city of Bergerac (35 mins) has recently benefitted from a little restoration and rejuvenation and has countless bistros and restaurants, to sample the rich regional dishes, washed down with the fine local wines. On the outskirts of Bergerac, Aqua Park promises family fun, with four big swimming pools and water slides.
Just over an hour’s drive away, the grand old city of Bordeaux is well worth a day trip, with its monumental architecture along the banks of the Garonne, wide boulevards of shops, beautiful parks for a picnic and wealth of museums, galleries and other attractions.
For a change from the pool, families can have an afternoon on a lake beach at Blasimon (30 mins), where the gently shelving sandy shore is ideal for toddlers to splash in the shallows. For a day by the sea, the West Coast beaches (90 mins) beyond Bordeaux, including Arcachon and Cap Ferret are vast, sandy and often backed by sand dunes including the largest in Europe, the Dune du Pyla.
Bicycle hire is available to explore the local countryside or families can take a boat trip on the Dordogne River, less than an hour away. Golfers can book a round at the prestigious Chateau des Vigiers course nearby and non players can enjoy tasty croque frites or afternoon tea in Le Chai Brasserie, overlooking the fairways. Children will enjoy a trip to the ‘magic cauldron’ eco farm to meet the array of friendly animals and discover how the mohair from all the goats is traditionally dyed in a big pot. Wallabi Aquitaine, near Agen is an amusement park and chateau, with a pirate boat, roller coasters and children’s’ rides, log flume and water rapid ride.
Getting There: approximately 35 minutes from Bergerac airport and 1 hour from Bordeaux airport, both of which are served by low cost airlines from many of the UK’s regional airports. See www.skyscanner.net to help locate airports/flight options. The nearest train station, which is on the TGV network, is Libourne (35 mins). The ferry port of Bilbao is 4.5hrs with St Malo 6hrs and Calais 10hrs.
Nearest Medical Facilities: Duras (5 mins), with Doctors, dentist, physiotherapist and pharmacy.

Colette SintonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We were lucky enough to have Vicki's expertise and support in finding our family holiday in Zakynthos this summer. After finding out exactly what we hoped for and needed, Vicki was able to find our perfect holiday - we were so looking forward to it and couldn't have been more delighted. Vicki's communication was informative and proactive throughout - our happiness with the arrangements was of the utmost importance to her and I felt I could get in touch with any queries. These were addressed swiftly and efficiently. I really felt like she went the extra mile in helping us plan our holiday and ensuring we were comfortable with all aspects. Highly recommend!! MAGGIE OAKLANDTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We used baby friendly bolt holes to book a trip to Portugal. Tori was really helpful in helping us book, manage transfers, etc. On our departure day we had unexpected passport issues - Tori was straight on to the hotel and arranged for us to stay a couple of days later than planned. She was brilliant and really diffused the stress of a heart sink situation. Would definitely book with these guys again. Hannah RoseTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Since our daughter was born 2.5 years ago, we have booked every single trip away with BFB. We have never been disappointed, and I have pretty high expectations when it comes to holidays! They respond so quickly to every query and have got us some great deals. I trust them fully with what are such crucial decisions about our much needed holidays and recommend them to every parent I know! I would be lost without them! The matching service was really useful Chris ReddingTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I submitted some basic details on their form on a Sunday evening and Tori got back to me the next day. We exchanged several emails and spoke on the phone. Tori was well informed, responsive and thorough. I was able to book a place that looks great with her help. It was great to have help from someone who specialises in family holidays, as our requirements are pretty different now compared to before having kids. I don't actually think I've ever had a personal service to help book a holiday before. Maybe this is what it was like when people used to go to the travel agent on the high street... Thanks Tori and BFB, would recommend and use again. Jessica TaylorTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I found Baby Friendly Boltholes by doing a Google search, and completed their online form with my holiday requirements. They got back to me very quickly with some great recommendations which were also very cost effective. Unfortunately due to a change in circumstances we're unable to book at this time, but I will definitely go back to Baby Friendly Boltholes when we're in a position to move forward with our booking. Thanks! Joel DaltonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Really fast and easy, available on a Sunday to complete our booking. I can’t recommend Juliet at babyboltholes enough, from our initial enquiry right through to booking, she was responsive, understanding and patient. I didn’t even know where to start booking our first family holiday, Juliet took onboard all our needs and found us our dream trip. 5 star service for busy parents!
