Being one of Europe’s best new boutique hotels according to CNN and one of Conde Nast Traveller’s most fashionable hotels in the world, Praia Verde Resort is clearly somewhere pretty special and its’ child friendly focus gets the big thumbs up from BFB.
The hotel has a well-equipped playroom for little ones and daytime activities include painting, story-time, treasure hunts and movie nights with popcorn, plus kids’ cookery workshops will have youngsters pummelling pizza dough and baking biccies with Algarve carob chocolate. Children can safely explore the Mediterranean landscaped gardens and discover a shady play area then cool down in the pool and flop down on the loungers with the folks for drinks and snacks from the pool bar. Families can also stroll to one of those beautiful white sandy beaches the Algarve is so famous for, just 800 metres from the hotel, with sunbeds and parasols, watersports and a beach bar for ice creams, milkshakes, cold beers and more throughout the summer season.
Eating is a real treat at the funky A Terra restaurant, with its cool, contemporary interior and decked terrace, which pulls in more than just hotel guests to devour simply delicious Mediterranean dishes and the chef’s specialties which are great for sharing. How about stone baked flat bread pizzas and bruschettas, aromatic roasts, colourful salads and sweet Portuguese desserts to get the tastebuds tingling! Location Information
Located in the Eastern Algarve, the Praia Verde Boutique Hotel is surrounded by a peaceful pine forest which borders an immense white sandy beach – which explains the resort’s name, meaning ‘Green Beach’. Within the resort there is a handful of shops and a bakery, restaurants, bars and a beach bar which are open throughout the summer season, plus the hotel can arrange various activities including picnics, oyster tastings, horse-drawn carriage rides, boat trips and bird watching excursions. Of course the Algarve is a mecca for golfers and the hotel will happily book tee times at several world class courses nearby, including Quinta da Ria, Quinta de Cima, Quinta do Vale and Monte Rei.
The small town of Castro Marim is very close by, with an ancient fort to explore and nearby salt flats where flamingos strut their stuff. The beach stretches as far as the eye can see in both directions, including the typical Portuguese coastal villages of Cacela Velha, Altura and Monte Gordo, right up to the historic old city of Vila Real de Santo, where the Rio Guadiana is the border with Spain.
20kms in the opposite direction, the old city of Tavira on the Rio Gilao is known as the Venice of the Algarve, with several bridges connecting the two halves of this vibrant and historic town. A little further along from Tavira, families can enjoy the flora and fauna of the Rio Formosa Natural Park, hopping on a boat trip run by local fishermen.
