Property Overview

0.0 (0 reviews )
Coastal family holidays in the UK rarely come better than this idyllic seaside family cottage in an unspoilt part of the Suffolk coast. Whether cosying up in front of a log fire with hot chocolate after bracing walks or crabbing on the quayside in Winter to enjoying sundowners in the waterfront pub opposite after long sunny days on the beach, exploring castles or enjoying boat trips. Not to mention sampling local delights in the artisan bakery come chocolate shop or seafood bistros mere steps from the front door!

For a really relaxing short break or even a chilled out week, there's enough in Orford to leave the car behind and catch a train. It's just 2 hours from central London and a short taxi to this Swallows and Amazon-style coastal getaway complete with handy baby-friendly kit (see full list in Fast Facts) so frazzled parents can pack light and relax from the off.

Boasting one of the largest gardens in the village, quaint cottage exterior, hides a spacious retreat with three bredrooms, two bathrooms, several lounges, parking for several cars and a gated rear garden for sunbathing ball games, barbecues and dining al fresco.

The front door opens into the sitting room with sofas, armchairs, an open fire, book shelves with games, toys and books, TV and DVD player. From there, French doors lead to the sunny conservatory, which opens directly onto the spacious garden. Another door from the sitting room leads to the dining room with a table and seating for up to 10. This connects directly to the well-equipped kitchen which boasts all mod-cons including oven, American style fridge freezer, dishwasher, kettle and toaster etc plus a second dining table with seating for five. There is a back door from the kitchen which leads to a utility room with washing-machine, dryer, sink and loo and direct access to the garden.

From the sitting room stairs lead upstairs to a landing. The first bedroom on the left is a twin bedroom, with fitted cupboards and a sink. The second bedroom has one double, chest of drawers and bedside table. The third bedroom is to the rear of the property overlooking the garden with a king-size bed, fitted wardrobes and dressing table. it offers lovely views over Orford town and to the River Ore. Next to the double room, is a newly refurbished shower room with shower, toilet and basin. The main bathroom is located to the right of the stairs, with bath, toilet, basin, and heated towel rail.

Outside, the charming English country garden offers privacy and is one of the biggest in Orford. It is mainly laid to lawn and surrounded by herbaceous borders and roses. There is plenty of space for games plus comfortable garden furniture, including table and chairs for 8 and a Weber bbq. The garden is fully fenced and the owners are very happy to accept well behaved dogs on the basis that they are not permitted on the furniture or upstairs. To the side of the house is a large tarmac driveway with ample off road parking for three cars.

Location Information

Nestled in the heart of the coastal village of Orford, the cottage benefits from several good food pubs, cafes, bistros on its doorstep as a well as an artisian bakery/chocloate shop and a fantastic general store that offers a pre-arrival shopping delivery service with tonnes of locally produced goodies from sausage and smoked fish to homemade doggie treats and locally produced beers and spirits.

There's plenty to keep families entertained without piling into the car with crabbing almost from the doorstep, miles of coastal path, standard and gourmet boat trips, plus a well-preserved castle to explore. That said, it is a shame not to venture a little further afield with the amazing anglo-saxon ship ruins and audio-visual displays at Sutton Hoo and the lovely boutique shopping, foodie delights and cultural events in Aldeburgh and Snape Maltings – not to mention possibly the UK's best Fish and Chips at Aldeburgh too! Although, for many, its the memory of hot chocolates at the Orford Tearooms, or sunsets and drinks at the Jolly Sailor that theyll remember best.

Getting There:
Orford is within 96 miles of Stansted Airport and around 12 miles from Woodbridge train station, which is just one stop from Ipswich, itself just three stops/70mins by regular train from London's Liverpool Street Station.
