Chezania

Le Grand Pressigny, Loire, France

Property Overview

4.5 (15 reviews )

This beautifully restored former grain store is now an idyllic retreat for a family of 4 plus up to 2 cots either as a few night's stop off en-route to or from the South or a longer stay enjoying French village life and exploring the Loire Valley region. It is certainly a far more attractive option to break up a longer self-drive trip than a crammed and bland motel and makes a very tempting way to extend a holiday whilst also avoiding the busiest channel crossing days too.

Owners and British ex-pats, Alex and Nicole brought up their two daughters in the area and are extremely well-versed in how to make a stay in the region as fun and relaxing as possible with little people in tow. They converted the barn with families in mind and stocked it with plenty of baby kit, even creating a dedicated 'cot room' in addition to the well-sized double and twin bedrooms. A basket of toys and books keeps little ones occupied whilst parents relax with morning coffee and pastries or evening drinks on the lovely, south-facing, balcony. It’s the perfect way to wind-down after a busy day exploring the area by car or using bikes and child seats provided.

Although, there's no need to venture far since the heart of this thriving historic village has a handy boulangerie, grocery store, bistros and heated open-air pool (open July & August) is with a short stroll from the apartment's private street entrance. Not to mention that there are play areas, picnic spots and traffic-free paths for walking and cycling within a few minutes from the front door and linking to many pretty villages all within a few miles of each other.

ChezANIA really is a lovely spot to enjoy a truly relaxing taste of genuine French village life. So much so, it seems a shame to only stay a few nights en route to a longer holiday in the South, four of five days would really do it justice.

Nicole and Alex provide all Baby Friendly Boltholes guests with a carefully selected welcome pack of local, seasonal and home-made goodies to help ease the whole family into their first evening.

Accommodation Overview:
chezANIA is a duplex apartment with a street-level entrance opening onto a light, bright, double-height living space complete with comfortable sofa seating, a smart TV to stream Netflix etc, a dining table for six and an open-plan kitchen with all mod cons (oven, hob, microwave, kettle, toaster, coffee machine, fridge freezer etc.). A downstairs shower room (baby bath provided) also houses a handy washing machine whilst upstairs there's a further shower room, twin bedroom, cot room (plus travel cot) and spacious double bedroom with Juliet balconies. Light, bright and airy in Summer, the apartment is equally cosy in cooler months thanks to its thick stone walls, electric radiators and cosy log burner. The spacious balcony off the airy open plan living space is a fabulously sunny spot for al fresco eating and is furnished with table and chairs for four.

Location Information

The apartment is within a few minutes stroll of the heart of the pretty and historic town of le Grand Pressigny with its charming shops, Brody’s pizza bistros, L’Auberge and chez Grand’ma restaurants, Préhisto bar and community heated open-air swimming pool (open in July & August). Alex & Nicole are happy loan guest bikes on which you can explore the quiet, relatively traffic free lanes around the area of simply nip out for a pre-breakfast trip to the local boulangerie!
For non-cyclists, there are many marked walking routes (randonnée), one of the most child friendly of which takes walkers around the back of the chateau at le Grand Pressigny, through the woods and wildflower meadows and back into town for a reward in the form of ice-cream and coffee stop. Alternatively, from June -August, cool off in the town's heated outdoor pool, which has paddling areas for babies and toddlers.
The multi pool, multi slide complex at nearby Descartes (10mins drive) will prove even more tempting for older children and can be combined with a visit to the town's Sunday morning market. Soak up the atmosphere from the one of the cafés with outdoor seating. Delicious pastries can be scoffed from the neighbouring patisserie while you watch the world go by. The market is a great place to stock up with local produce or buy a picnic and head to the river and the fantastic public gardens with animals, play park, crazy golf, outdoor pool, rose garden, herb garden all laid out in a pushchair friendly way allowing children freedom to run ahead.

There are plenty of good traditional French bistros in the villages surrounding Chezania, most are at their most animated best during lunchtime service starting at midday – perfect for a meal with young children. Kiddie favourites are Brody’s and Grand’ma in le Grand Pressigny and L’Image in nearby Preuilly-sur-Claise all serve great local food and are quite happy for little cherubs to be crayoning on the paper table mats between courses!
Alex & Nicole can also advise on and book various other activities from local Cookery workshops, golf or spa treatments at la Roche Posay, horse riding, canoeing, and even hot air ballooning over the Loire Valley chateaux. Alex is a keen fisherman and cyclist, Nicole walks every Sunday in a group and both are happy to share their favourite routes.
