A national newspaper’s recent 'Top 10 Picture Postcard Ski Resorts' ranked charming St Martin de Belleville highly and, taking in the breath-taking view from the panoramic balcony, it is not hard to see why. What is hard though, is not feeling more than a little bit smug about the cosseted luxury in which you find yourself in this truly exceptional 5-bedroom chalet, available by the room or for exclusive use during the snow-sure period from Mid December – Mid April.
This Savoyard home is perfect for ski-loving families looking a real treat. The interiors are a charming blend of traditional and contemporary while the service in second to none. More akin to staying in your own boutique hotel, there’s an in-house chef, host and manager on hand to cater to your every need. Parents won’t know what’s hit them, as they’re offered a real (and rare) chance to truly relax. Housekeeping takes care of the cleaning, while delicious meals and drinks are served up daily. There’s even an optional massage service for parents in need of a little extra TLC.
Service and style aside, it’s the owner’s attention to family-friendly details which really sets this place apart. Alongside the available baby gear, the chalet concierge is on hand to help anticipate parents need. They can pre-stock the villa with essentials from nappies, formula, wipes, etc and can pre-book crèche, ski school, nannies and ad hoc requirements for restaurants, spas, babysitters, etc. when in the resort. It’s an excellent service that offers wonderful peace of mind to families with young children, leaving them confident that everything will run as smoothly as the low-traffic slopes they'll be skiing on.
Accommodation Overview:
The chalet is set about 10 minutes’ walk (2 mins by complimentary driver service) from the centre of St Martin de Belleville. The interior is split over three floors with spectacular views.
The ground floor is home to a comfortable twin room (can be made up as a super king) with an en-suite shower room and a separate boot room complete with boot warmers.
The first floor houses the main living space. There’s a lounge area with corner sofa, which sits in front of an impressive glass-fronted log fire and a flat-screen TV with UK satellite programs along with a DVD player and choice of DVDs. The dining area has beautiful views over the village and Le Chatelard beyond, whilst the kitchen (though you won’t find yourself using it much!) is well equipped. The star of this floor for us, is the beautiful sun terrace which has wonderful alpine views. It has outdoor seating and a spacious hot tub – perfect for unwinding in after a day on the slopes.
The master bedroom is also housed on this floor. Set just off the main living area, the spacious bedroom has floor to ceiling windows to make most of the views and its own access to the sun terrace. The bedroom has a king-size bed and an en-suite bathroom with a deep bath and walk-in shower.
The three remaining bedrooms are located on the second floor. There are two more double rooms each with king-size beds and en-suite bathrooms (one with shower and one with bath & shower) and one twin room (can be made up as super king) with en-suite shower room. There’s also a snug room on this floor which is always popular with little ones. It has a TV, Wii, and choice of children’s games and DVDs.
The chalet is surprisingly good value for money too as included within rates are delicious breakfasts, afternoon teas crammed with freshly baked cakes, pre-dinner canapés and 5-course dinners (six dinners served weekly, one of which is a help yourself Savoyard supper), plus an on-demand driver service (2 mins drive to slopes and village) until 11 pm nightly, and a complimentary bar stocked with soft drinks, mixers and medal-winning wines. Not to mention the invaluable concierge service.
Location Information
Trois Vallee is set in a hamlet of houses overlooking pretty St Martin De Belleville and 10-15 minutes walk, or 4 minutes by complimentary driver service, to the village centre. It's fair to say that those looking for all action nightlife, glitz and glamour, should probably head an hour or so (by skis) over the valley to Meribel, but for an equally snow-sure but less crowded experience, St Martin has a lot to offer. It has stunning scenery, three Michelin listed restaurants, including a 2-star winner regarded as the best in the Trois Vallee region, friendly bars and a well-run crèche and ski school.
Skiing Conditions: When at the top of the St Martin lifts, you are skiing at 2,434m, so it's snow sure from December to May. The village itself is 1450m high making it the same height as Meribel, but with the benefit of around a tenth of the ski traffic, but the same excellent piste management and snow-making on the home-runs, which is very effective at keeping them open. The Trois Vallees area has 600km of piste and 200 lifts. The village has an 8 person gondola, which is rarely busy and leads to a modern 4-person chair up to Tougnette (over 2400 feet).
Children: There's an excellent nursery slope in the village with a magic carpet lift, which is ideal for little ones. The crèche is regarded to be amongst the best in the region and popular with local residents, as well as visitors. Abode's concierge service can arrange places for BFB guests.
Activities/Spa: Trois Vallee Chalet's concierge service will effortlessly arrange activities from paragliding and snow mobiles to dog sleighs and in-house masseur therapist service. Not to be missed, 'La Bouiette' the 2-Michelin-starred restaurant has a newly opened spa with complimentary driver service. As well as a Jacuzzi and sauna, they offer specialist treatments including the unique 'Solant in the Hay' treatment which comprises a steam bath with hay cut from above 1,400 metres, and a 'Marie' bath with milk and mountain honey.
Nightlife: St Martin boasts around five bars and 10 restaurants. Dahlia, at the bottom of the lifts has a lovely sunny terrace for lunch or après ski drinks. The piano bar 'Porqui Pas' is a classic old bar in the prettiest part of town with an open fire, friendly staff and late hours. Le Billlig is a new bar and restaurant and L'Eterlou has a great location at the bottom of the poma. Whilst the chef-made meals at Abode are extremely tough to beat, for a change of scene or special lunch, there are three Michelin listed restaurants, including the 2-star La Bouiette, which is regarded as the best is the entire region. There are also a number of friendly pizzerias popular with younger guests.
Getting There: Abode is approx. 75mins drive from the airport at Chambery and 2-2.5hrs from Geneva, Grenoble and Lyon.

After finding out exactly what we hoped for and needed, Vicki was able to find our perfect holiday - we were so looking forward to it and couldn't have been more delighted. Vicki's communication was informative and proactive throughout - our happiness with the arrangements was of the utmost importance to her and I felt I could get in touch with any queries. These were addressed swiftly and efficiently. I really felt like she went the extra mile in helping us plan our holiday and ensuring we were comfortable with all aspects. Highly recommend!! Tori was really helpful in helping us book, manage transfers, etc. On our departure day we had unexpected passport issues - Tori was straight on to the hotel and arranged for us to stay a couple of days later than planned. She was brilliant and really diffused the stress of a heart sink situation. Would definitely book with these guys again. We have never been disappointed, and I have pretty high expectations when it comes to holidays! They respond so quickly to every query and have got us some great deals. I trust them fully with what are such crucial decisions about our much needed holidays and recommend them to every parent I know! I would be lost without them! The matching service was really useful Chris ReddingTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I submitted some basic details on their form on a Sunday evening and Tori got back to me the next day. We exchanged several emails and spoke on the phone. Tori was well informed, responsive and thorough. I was able to book a place that looks great with her help. It was great to have help from someone who specialises in family holidays, as our requirements are pretty different now compared to before having kids. I don't actually think I've ever had a personal service to help book a holiday before. Maybe this is what it was like when people used to go to the travel agent on the high street... Thanks Tori and BFB, would recommend and use again. Jessica TaylorTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I found Baby Friendly Boltholes by doing a Google search, and completed their online form with my holiday requirements. They got back to me very quickly with some great recommendations which were also very cost effective. Unfortunately due to a change in circumstances we're unable to book at this time, but I will definitely go back to Baby Friendly Boltholes when we're in a position to move forward with our booking. I can’t recommend Juliet at babyboltholes enough, from our initial enquiry right through to booking, she was responsive, understanding and patient. I didn’t even know where to start booking our first family holiday, Juliet took onboard all our needs and found us our dream trip. 5 star service for busy parents!
