Past guests rave about this pretty cluster of three stone cottages with words like "Perfect", "Heavenly", "Magical" and "Paradise" littering the guest book and, with their simple but beautiful interiors, idyllic pool and truly mesmerising scenic setting, it is pretty easy to see why. But, from a parent's perspective, it is the fabulous attention to in family friendly touches and services that make Casa San Gabriel the kind of place many find themselves returning to time and time again.
Owners Chrissie and David have two young daughters themselves which has also given them a keen insight into what it takes to enjoy a relaxing holiday with tots in tow. It shows in the handy collection of toys, books and baby gear provided (see breakdown in grey column left), the brilliant little kids play outdoor area and the ever popular weekly pizza night, when junior guests adore getting involved in making their own dinner and mum and dad get to enjoy a sociable glass of wine and some of David's home-made olive oil, which is also supplied in the handy cottage welcome packs.
When not exploring the many easily accessible nearby towns including the famously beautiful Arezzo, Assisi, Gubbio and Florence, grown-up guests generally find themselves unwinding on their private terraces, none of which are overlooked and each furnished both for lounging and dining including a BBQ, whilst little ones can be free to roam with new found friends of both the two and four-legged variety – Casa San Gabriel has its own very sweet dog and small Alpaca herd.
Accommodation Overview:
Il Fienile (The Hayloft) is the largest of three cottages at Casa San Gabriel and is split over two levels with a mezzanine double (can be twin) bedroom on set above an open-plan lounge, kitchen, diner area which leads onto a bunks room (space for a cot) and shower room (baby bath available) with WC. The clever design makes the most of the little cottage with a handy kitchenette, complete with four-ring hob, mini-oven with grill, fridge and sink all tucked into a beautiful traditional-style cupboard, with separate pull-down work surface. The large comfortable sofa can be used as an additional double, bed whilst the pretty round dining table and chairs for four inside, is handy for playing games or drawing but generally overlooked for dining in favour of the private terrace dining table, which is covered by a shady pergola and offers breathtaking views over the verdant valley beyond. The terrace also has deckchairs for lounging and a BBQ. All cottages at Casa San Gabriel now have air-conditioning.
PLEASE NOTE: Although the picture shows the staircase at the cottage is open, the owners have created a side stair enclosure and provided a stairgate which should be used to protect curious babies/toddlers from attempting the stairs unsupervised.

Location Information
Casa San Gabriel is set down a 1.5km gravel road in a quiet rural valley just a few kilometres from the small village of Pierantonio, and a short drive from the bustling market town of Umbertide. Car hire is essential.
Owners Chrissie and David are a fabulous source of information on places to visit, things to do and places to eat, so do ask their advice, but here's some basic info:
Shopping: The village has a decent market each Tuesday whilst nearby Umbertide has one on Wednesdays. The cosmopolitan city of Perugia is just 25kms away (35min by train from the village) and has many shops, bars, bistros and cafes, as well as a well respected annual Jazz festival.
Sightseeing: The medieval centre of Assisi is within about 30mins drive and is said to be one of the best preserved in the world. Gubbio, another famously beautiful hilltop town is also with half an hour's drive and boasts many bars and restaurants amongst its cobbled streets, plus a funicular railway to the basilica on the top of Monteingino, which offers magnificent views of the town and mountains beyond. Florence is within around 90minutes drive.
Beaches: There are several sandy beaches alongside nearby Lago Trasimeno, of which the Harringtons highly recommend Sualzo beach near Passignano, which is within 30mins drive. There's also an excellent waterpark within 50minutes drive, which has four pools including a very shallow toddler/baby pool complete with little slides and fountains.
Kids Love: The Aplaca Farm about 10mins from Umbertide, the Citta della Domencia wildlife park with trains, play areas and Indian Village and the Perugina Chocolate Factory
Sports: There are several golf courses nearby that welcome visitors including the championship course at Antognolla. Watersports including canoeing are available at the Marmore national waterpark near Terni.
Eating Out: Restaurant Pomerancio in Umbertide has a nice outside seating areaand comes highly recommended. As deos La Locanda del Capitano in Montone, which is acclaimed for its beautiful setting in a small courtyard, great food and attentive service.

After finding out exactly what we hoped for and needed, Vicki was able to find our perfect holiday - we were so looking forward to it and couldn't have been more delighted. Vicki's communication was informative and proactive throughout - our happiness with the arrangements was of the utmost importance to her and I felt I could get in touch with any queries. These were addressed swiftly and efficiently. I really felt like she went the extra mile in helping us plan our holiday and ensuring we were comfortable with all aspects. Highly recommend!! Tori was really helpful in helping us book, manage transfers, etc. On our departure day we had unexpected passport issues - Tori was straight on to the hotel and arranged for us to stay a couple of days later than planned. She was brilliant and really diffused the stress of a heart sink situation. Would definitely book with these guys again. We have never been disappointed, and I have pretty high expectations when it comes to holidays! They respond so quickly to every query and have got us some great deals. I trust them fully with what are such crucial decisions about our much needed holidays and recommend them to every parent I know! I would be lost without them! The matching service was really useful Chris ReddingTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I submitted some basic details on their form on a Sunday evening and Tori got back to me the next day. We exchanged several emails and spoke on the phone. Tori was well informed, responsive and thorough. I was able to book a place that looks great with her help. It was great to have help from someone who specialises in family holidays, as our requirements are pretty different now compared to before having kids. I don't actually think I've ever had a personal service to help book a holiday before. Maybe this is what it was like when people used to go to the travel agent on the high street... Thanks Tori and BFB, would recommend and use again. Jessica TaylorTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I found Baby Friendly Boltholes by doing a Google search, and completed their online form with my holiday requirements. They got back to me very quickly with some great recommendations which were also very cost effective. Unfortunately due to a change in circumstances we're unable to book at this time, but I will definitely go back to Baby Friendly Boltholes when we're in a position to move forward with our booking. Thanks! Joel DaltonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Really fast and easy, available on a Sunday to complete our booking. I can’t recommend Juliet at babyboltholes enough, from our initial enquiry right through to booking, she was responsive, understanding and patient. I didn’t even know where to start booking our first family holiday, Juliet took onboard all our needs and found us our dream trip. 5 star service for busy parents!
