In a leafy, hidden valley, near the North Cornwall coast, a mile-long private drive leads through bluebell woods to the three barn conversion cottages of Stoneleigh Knowle. The seaside town of Bude and the sandy beach of Widemouth Bay are only 10 minutes’ drive, but in this secluded spot, families (and their dogs!) can escape the day-trippers in 75 acres of ancient Cornish countryside, following woodland trails watching for wildlife, having lazy picnics in the meadows and stargazing on summer nights.
The three barn conversions are set around a large courtyard sun trap and share the garden immediately surrounding the cottages where little ones can play while grown-ups kick back with a Kindle or set a BBQ sizzling. Children can also make a wooden fort their base for all kinds of adventures and make new friends having table tennis tournaments.
The Cornish stone cottages themselves, which glow golden in the sunshine, have all the authentic character of vaulted beamed ceilings and feature stone walls, complemented by light and fresh contemporary décor throughout. For cosy evenings in, families can snuggle into comfy sofas by a funky SMEG wall fire or wood burner to watch BluRay DVD’s or play with the toys and games provided by the helpful hosts. The modern farmhouse kitchens are well equipped for self-catering, from baby essentials to classy crockery, and the bathrooms in all three cottages are all shiny, new and luxurious. Sinking into the wrought iron bedsteads and cool Egyptian cotton linen, a good night’s sleep is on the cards thanks to the blackout curtains and peaceful setting, except perhaps for the hoot of an owl or squeak of a bat!
Accommodation overview
Stoneleigh Knowle comprises three cottages for 2 to 7 people, plus babies in cots, or a group of up to 14 family and friends if all three are booked together. Two dogs are also welcome at all three cottages.
The Stables (sleeps 7+babies) is the largest of the three barn conversions, with two bedrooms upstairs and another on the ground floor with a king size bed which comes in handy for elderly grandparents or a couple with a baby. The master bedroom upstairs has a super king-size bed and gleaming, new ensuite shower room, while the third bedroom has three single beds, and both have space for two cots. Also upstairs, the newly fitted family bathroom has a roll top bath for a sumptuous soak and a separate shower to kick start the day. On the ground floor, the open plan living/dining area is spacious, light and airy, with comfy sofas to cosy down by a Smeg wall fire to watch TV or BluRay DVD’s or play with the toys and games provided. The modern cottage kitchen has everything families will need, including a range oven, microwave, retro-style fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and all the essential utensils. The cottage opens onto the large sunny courtyard and shared garden, with outdoor seating and a BBQ, wooden play fort and table tennis.

Location Information
Stoneleigh Knowle is perfect for having gorgeous Cornish countryside on the doorstep and the famously fab beaches only 10 minutes away. Tucked away in it’s a secluded wooded valley, it’s easy to feel miles from anywhere and yet the shops, pubs and restaurants of bustling Bude are just a couple of miles away. Even if the weather isn’t pleasant, families can retreat to a fun splash pool and brilliant soft play centre in Bude’s Harlequin Centre. Local supermarkets Waitrose, Tesco and Sainsbury will also all delivery to the cottages.
Many of the beaches around Bude are a mecca for surfers, especially the expanse of breakers in Widemouth Bay, but the shores are also patrolled by lifeguards from May to September and the man-made sea pool at Summerleaze is perfectly calm and sheltered for smaller children. After beach-fun at Summerleaze, what better than ice creams and sunset seafood at Life’s A Beach, or the finest Cornish produce served up by a chef from London’s Bibendum at the newly opened Castle Restaurant. For special foodie treats, Rick Stein and Jamie Oliver’s restaurants are within 40 minutes by car/taxi. Be sure to request a sea view table at Oliver's Fifteen and enjoy the breath-taking beach sunset view.
Stoneleigh Knowle is just off the ‘Atlantic Highway’ of the A39 which means a wide variety of fun things for families to see and do are within half an hour’s drive. The award-winning Milky Way amusement park (20 mins) includes roller coasters, dodgems, a living maze, birds of prey displays and a huge indoor play area, with giant slides and an assault course. Near Launceston (30 mins) Trethorne Fun Park has adventure playgrounds and a 45,000 sq ft indoor play area, as well as 10-pin bowling and a petting corner to meet llamas, goats and lambs. ‘Next door’ to Trethorne Park, Hidden valley is a nature reserve with the added attractions of a miniature railway, Hobbit’s Garden, treasure hunt-style trails and scrummy homemade cakes in the cafe. Alpaca Farm (20 mins) boasts fabulous cream teas after following the trails or taking a safari to see the cute, woolly creatures, and at Tamar Otter and Wildlife Centre ( 20 mins) children can watch otters playing and being fed up close. The Eden Project is a little further afield but still within around an hour's drive.

Colette SintonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We were lucky enough to have Vicki's expertise and support in finding our family holiday in Zakynthos this summer. After finding out exactly what we hoped for and needed, Vicki was able to find our perfect holiday - we were so looking forward to it and couldn't have been more delighted. Vicki's communication was informative and proactive throughout - our happiness with the arrangements was of the utmost importance to her and I felt I could get in touch with any queries. These were addressed swiftly and efficiently. I really felt like she went the extra mile in helping us plan our holiday and ensuring we were comfortable with all aspects. Highly recommend!! MAGGIE OAKLANDTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We used baby friendly bolt holes to book a trip to Portugal. Tori was really helpful in helping us book, manage transfers, etc. On our departure day we had unexpected passport issues - Tori was straight on to the hotel and arranged for us to stay a couple of days later than planned. She was brilliant and really diffused the stress of a heart sink situation. Would definitely book with these guys again. We have never been disappointed, and I have pretty high expectations when it comes to holidays! They respond so quickly to every query and have got us some great deals. I trust them fully with what are such crucial decisions about our much needed holidays and recommend them to every parent I know! I would be lost without them! The matching service was really useful Chris ReddingTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I submitted some basic details on their form on a Sunday evening and Tori got back to me the next day. We exchanged several emails and spoke on the phone. Tori was well informed, responsive and thorough. I was able to book a place that looks great with her help. It was great to have help from someone who specialises in family holidays, as our requirements are pretty different now compared to before having kids. I don't actually think I've ever had a personal service to help book a holiday before. Maybe this is what it was like when people used to go to the travel agent on the high street... Thanks Tori and BFB, would recommend and use again. Jessica TaylorTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I found Baby Friendly Boltholes by doing a Google search, and completed their online form with my holiday requirements. They got back to me very quickly with some great recommendations which were also very cost effective. Unfortunately due to a change in circumstances we're unable to book at this time, but I will definitely go back to Baby Friendly Boltholes when we're in a position to move forward with our booking. Thanks! Joel DaltonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Really fast and easy, available on a Sunday to complete our booking. I can’t recommend Juliet at babyboltholes enough, from our initial enquiry right through to booking, she was responsive, understanding and patient. I didn’t even know where to start booking our first family holiday, Juliet took onboard all our needs and found us our dream trip. 5 star service for busy parents!
