Nykteri Villa

Oia, Santorini, Greece

Property Overview

When we stumbled across family-run cluster, Vino Houses in Santorini we knew it was something special and on flicking through the guestbook it seems we’re far from the only ones. The book is an ode to owner Yota’s incredibly warm service and the island retreat she’s put her heart into creating.

Comprising of three, stylish villa suites, each has been designed to provide a real home away from home feel with child-friendly touches for families and some very thoughtful hotel-style services thrown in for good measure. We particularly love the individual character each property has given thanks to Yota’s eye for style and quirky details.

For parents, the added services ensure the flexibility of a self-catering stay without compromising on relaxation. Delicious breakfasts daily and guests can opt into half board or a delicious meal delivery service on request. As for those keen to explore, the free concierge service means taking all the leg work out of finding the best restaurants, excursions, beaches, and family days out.

Perhaps what we love most about Vino Houses though is its location. Nestled on the outskirts of a traditional village just over half an hour’s walk from Santorini hotspot Oia, the cluster feels rural without being remote. There’s a local winery restaurant within a few minutes’ walk and the village which offers a choice of three restaurants and a mini-market is 15 minutes away on foot. Although the island isn’t known for its beaches, there is one called Baxedes just 10 minutes’ walk downhill from the cluster.

Good child-friendly accommodation is hard to come by in Santorini, but Vino Houses is a real gem.

Accommodation Overview – Nykteri Villa

Located on the ground floor, this contemporary two-bedroom villa sleeps 4 plus an infant. Guests enter into a bright open-plan living space with a small kitchen area, dining table, and lounge. The kitchenette is equipped with a 2-ring hob, an oven, coffee facilities and an array of crockery. The kitchen sink is perhaps our favourite feature as it’s been fashioned from a traditional style terracotta urn. As for dining, there’s space at the table inside and there’s an additional outdoor dining table for balmy evenings. The lounge area cosy with a flat-screen cable TV and views out to the pool terrace.

The house has two double bedrooms each with comfortable king-size beds and guests are provided with bathrobes and slippers for a boutique hotel feel. There is also a hairdryer. There is one, small family bathroom with a shower.

Outside the house has a private patio with a small (unfenced) plunge pool which hydromassage option, deck chairs, an outdoor sofa, and a dining area.

Location Information

Santorini is one of Greece’s more well-known islands and you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who wasn’t familiar with its cliff side, white sugar cubed buildings, and bustling towns. The great thing about a stay at Vino Houses is families are right on the edge of one of the main tourist hubs with the beautiful town of Oia in walking distance, but it offers a more authentic and tranquil experience.

Closer to home the local village offers families a choice of three restaurants and mini-market for picking up essentials. Larger shops are just a short drive away and the owner can offer a shopping service on request for any guests wanting to stock their villa ready for arrival. The winery just 100 metres from the cluster has a good restaurant and is an easy place to head for a meal out. Babysitting is available too should parents fancy an evening out locally or a romantic dinner in Oia.

As for beach days, there’s a volcanic sandy outcrop within 10 minutes' walk, but families may find it better to hop in the car and take one of Yota’s recommendations for a serviced beach.

Nearest airport: Santorini airport is within 20kms, and the ferry port is even closer.

Nearest medical centre/A&E: 15km away
