If happy children mean happy parents, Le Rhun, on the beautiful Crozon peninsula in Brittany, will have families beaming from ear to ear! The owners have created an amazing array of fun things for little ones to discover and do, while grown-ups will love the choice of fab gites with a long list of helpful equipment for having babies and toddlers in tow.
Formerly a Breton cider farm, Le Rhun has been lovingly converted into 5 gites which have been thoughtfully finished and furnished in keeping with their character and offering every cosy comfort. From the typical Breton farmhouse to the converted cow shed, grain store, veg store and stable, each of the gites has been individually styled, combining original and antique features with all mod cons. A full range of baby and toddler equipment for eating, sleeping and safety can be provided in all the gites and each one has a large toy box full of toys, books and games.
Le Rhun is set in 40 acres of farmland where children can safely play and explore ‘free range’. Le Rhun boasts several imaginative and well-equipped play areas for all ages and a heated outdoor pool with floats and inflatables plus an inflatable paddling pool is available on request. Specifically, with the under 5s in mind, a nursery garden features toddler swings, a large selection of ride-ons, rope bridge into an imaginary ‘under the sea’ walk and living willow tunnel. The Pirate Ship play deck is obviously a favourite with a captain’s wheel, telescope and periscope, a flag to hoist, bell to ring, wobbly bridge and plank for naughty shipmates. A games pitch has all the wherewithal for swingball, volleyball, badminton and football, alongside larger swings, a slide and playhouse.
The Fairy Glade in the woods next to the gites is an enchanted woodland trail where the young and not-so-young will be transported into a world of magic and imagination. You’ll see lots of evidence of fairies such as washing on the line and their music tree, but only a very lucky few have ever seen the actual fairies!
Le Rhun also has a sand pit with appropriate toys, buckets and spades, not forgetting that a lovely sandy beach is just a few minutes’ drive away.
If all this wasn’t enough, the owner also offers all sorts of activities for children including story-telling and treasure hunts, plus parents can even book a surprise party complete with balloons and homemade cakes.
Finally, ‘Under The Barn’ is Le Rhun’s 1920’s traditional barn, where families can have coffee and cake while logging into the wi-fi, reading a book or browsing maps and brochures. Complete with tables and chairs, comfy sofas and even a Bedouin tent, the barn is a great place for folks to meet up, eat, share a drink, play some games (table football, large size chess table and a giant Connect-4 are always the favourites) or choose a DVD from the extensive collection. The barn is also the place to be for the weekly crepe nights which is a must for every visitor.
Accommodation Overview
Le Rhun comprises 5 gites – La Ferme (sleeps 12+3), Etable (sleeps 8), Les Chátigniers (sleeps 5), Hibou (sleeps 4 + 1) and Ecurie (sleeps 4).
Etable, (4 bedooms, sleeps 8) is an amazing transformation of the original cowshed with quirky original features creating its unique rustic charm, like 4 animal pens converted into 2 showers and 2 WC’s, with the ring for tethering the bull still embedded in the wall! The living room is wonderfully cosy with a feature fireplace and large wood burning stove, comfy armchairs, Freeview TV, DVD player and a chunky wood dining table. The kitchen is more sleek and contemporary, equipped with a gas range cooker, microwave, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, breakfast-bar worktop and a full range of cooking utensils. An open tread pine staircase leads to the first floor where there are two rooms with king size beds which each have adjoining twin bedded rooms – making Etable especially ideal for two families of up to 4. The garden looks over the fields to the woods and features solid wood furniture and a stone-built barbecue.

After finding out exactly what we hoped for and needed, Vicki was able to find our perfect holiday - we were so looking forward to it and couldn't have been more delighted. Vicki's communication was informative and proactive throughout - our happiness with the arrangements was of the utmost importance to her and I felt I could get in touch with any queries. These were addressed swiftly and efficiently. I really felt like she went the extra mile in helping us plan our holiday and ensuring we were comfortable with all aspects. Highly recommend!! Tori was really helpful in helping us book, manage transfers, etc. On our departure day we had unexpected passport issues - Tori was straight on to the hotel and arranged for us to stay a couple of days later than planned. She was brilliant and really diffused the stress of a heart sink situation. Would definitely book with these guys again. We have never been disappointed, and I have pretty high expectations when it comes to holidays! They respond so quickly to every query and have got us some great deals. I trust them fully with what are such crucial decisions about our much needed holidays and recommend them to every parent I know! I would be lost without them! The matching service was really useful Chris ReddingTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I submitted some basic details on their form on a Sunday evening and Tori got back to me the next day. We exchanged several emails and spoke on the phone. Tori was well informed, responsive and thorough. I was able to book a place that looks great with her help. It was great to have help from someone who specialises in family holidays, as our requirements are pretty different now compared to before having kids. I don't actually think I've ever had a personal service to help book a holiday before. Maybe this is what it was like when people used to go to the travel agent on the high street... Thanks Tori and BFB, would recommend and use again. Jessica TaylorTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I found Baby Friendly Boltholes by doing a Google search, and completed their online form with my holiday requirements. They got back to me very quickly with some great recommendations which were also very cost effective. Unfortunately due to a change in circumstances we're unable to book at this time, but I will definitely go back to Baby Friendly Boltholes when we're in a position to move forward with our booking. Thanks! Joel DaltonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Really fast and easy, available on a Sunday to complete our booking. I can’t recommend Juliet at babyboltholes enough, from our initial enquiry right through to booking, she was responsive, understanding and patient. I didn’t even know where to start booking our first family holiday, Juliet took onboard all our needs and found us our dream trip. 5 star service for busy parents!
