La Ferme du Cayla has been in the Lacombe family for generations but when Jean-Pierre took the helm in the 1990’s, he and his wife decided to take the farm in an exciting new direction, with the aim of offering ‘the best family holidays in France’! They may well have cracked it too, with their beautifully bijou holiday village that has got the lot, in the Lot, for relaxing, fun-filled holidays with tots to teenagers.
So determined were the couple to get the formula just right, that they commissioned the renowned Lausanne Hotel School to conduct a concept design study on their family holiday village and their latest wave of tweaks and ideas were put in place for the 2015/16 season. For BFB, one of the best new features is the addition of a Baby Club Creche for little ones, from 3 months to 3 years old, to go with the Kids Club and Junior Club for 3 to 13-year olds. Toddlers can clamber around an indoor wooden play frame, or play with wooden toys or in the sand pit and the nannies can help with painting pictures or read stories to settle babies down for an afternoon nap. For older children, the outdoor play area now includes a 4-metre netted trampoline, swings, treehouses, table tennis and a 25-metre zip line, plus they can help with feeding time at a new mini farm, meeting the donkeys Pepino and Angela, Romeo the pony, rabbits and chickens. All this is in addition to a 32ft pool with an adjoining 16ft paddling pool, a 9-hole mini golf course and a host of stimulating activities, from learning how to fish on the private Carp lake, or how to build tree houses, to baking French bread and making pizzas.
There’s been some new developments for grown-ups at La Ferme as well, including an adults only indoor pool, sauna, steam room and massage treatment rooms, plus the inclusion of an open bar and wine cellar within summer holiday packages. The all-inclusive option, available from late June to September, really allows parents to utterly chill out, thanks to a superb buffet breakfast, buffet lunch or a picnic basket, afternoon tea and dinner in the restaurant, or served ‘back at home’. The package also includes two dinners in the nearby town with babysitters provided, free use of all the kids clubs, 2 massages per adult and a choice of excursions. The all inclusive package is at an extra charge
In transforming La Ferme from its agricultural origins, the owners have created the ambience of a little French village, including a pretty central square with bright flower beds, a fountain and the traditional patch for playing petanque. They have also renovated the buildings into 3 family apartments, 3 cottages and a family house which feature rustic exposed stone walls and have been comfortably furnished for families, including well equipped modern kitchens, Wi Fi and private dining terraces with barbecues.
Accommodation overview
Laurier is an attractive 2-storey stone house which provides 1200 sq ft. of internal space, including four bedrooms for six plus a baby in a cot. The house enjoys spectacular views over the Cele Valley, especially from a very large and incredibly panoramic, fully glazed veranda and there is also an outdoor dining terrace at the other side of the house, overlooking the mini golf course. Leading through to the conservatory-style veranda is a dining kitchen which includes a microwave, oven, dishwasher, washing machine and all the kitchenware for family self catering. The cottage has three bathrooms (2 shower rooms, 1 bathroom). The four bedrooms are made up of two double bedrooms and two single rooms set on a mezzanine level.

Location Information
In the heart of incredibly scenic Lot countryside, in the mild and sunny South West France, La Ferme du Cayla provides a perfectly peaceful setting for really relaxing family holidays. La Ferme enjoys a panoramic position, overlooking the wooded Cele Valley and it is effectively a tiny hamlet in its own right with a restaurant and activities for children onsite.
Medieval Figeac is just 15 minutes drive from La Ferme (7 miles) and one of the ‘must-visit’ towns in the Lot. The narrow streets and cobbled squares are full of half timbered buildings and arcades, now buzzing with pavement cafes, restaurants and interesting shops, especially in Le Place Champallion and on market day, on Saturday morning. Besides Figeac, there are many other timeless villages to explore throughout the Lot, including Capdenac and Cardaillac which are among ‘the most beautiful villages in France’.
Excursions to discover the highlights of the Lot can be arranged at La Ferme or families can explore for themselves. Wine lovers have to visit the historic town of Cahors (approx 1 hr) and its surrounding vineyards, being renowned for its ‘black’ red wines that once rivalled the finest Bordeaux. Rocamadour is an amazing village that clings perilously to a sheer rockface and at Conques families can follow in the footsteps of pilgrims on the sacred route to Santiago de Compostela.
Active types can arrange canoeing and kayaking adventures through the stunning river gorge of the Cele River and there are adventure parks and treetop trails not too far from La Ferme. For a more relaxing day, families can pack a picnic and head to the Lac du Tollerme (approx 45 mins) with a lake beach for paddling and swimming and small boats for hire.
Nearest medical services: Centre Hospitalier de Cahors which is just over an hours drive away.
Getting here: Rodez-Marcillac and Brive-Vallée de la Dordogne Airports are nearest to La Ferme du Cayla which have limited flights during the summer season to London, Dublin, Brussels and Amsterdam. Toulouse Blagnac is the main airport for the region which is located two hours’ drive from La Ferme du Cayla.

Colette SintonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We were lucky enough to have Vicki's expertise and support in finding our family holiday in Zakynthos this summer. After finding out exactly what we hoped for and needed, Vicki was able to find our perfect holiday - we were so looking forward to it and couldn't have been more delighted. Vicki's communication was informative and proactive throughout - our happiness with the arrangements was of the utmost importance to her and I felt I could get in touch with any queries. These were addressed swiftly and efficiently. I really felt like she went the extra mile in helping us plan our holiday and ensuring we were comfortable with all aspects. Highly recommend!! Tori was really helpful in helping us book, manage transfers, etc. On our departure day we had unexpected passport issues - Tori was straight on to the hotel and arranged for us to stay a couple of days later than planned. She was brilliant and really diffused the stress of a heart sink situation. Would definitely book with these guys again. We have never been disappointed, and I have pretty high expectations when it comes to holidays! They respond so quickly to every query and have got us some great deals. I trust them fully with what are such crucial decisions about our much needed holidays and recommend them to every parent I know! I would be lost without them! The matching service was really useful Chris ReddingTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I submitted some basic details on their form on a Sunday evening and Tori got back to me the next day. We exchanged several emails and spoke on the phone. Tori was well informed, responsive and thorough. I was able to book a place that looks great with her help. It was great to have help from someone who specialises in family holidays, as our requirements are pretty different now compared to before having kids. I don't actually think I've ever had a personal service to help book a holiday before. Maybe this is what it was like when people used to go to the travel agent on the high street... Thanks Tori and BFB, would recommend and use again. Jessica TaylorTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I found Baby Friendly Boltholes by doing a Google search, and completed their online form with my holiday requirements. They got back to me very quickly with some great recommendations which were also very cost effective. Unfortunately due to a change in circumstances we're unable to book at this time, but I will definitely go back to Baby Friendly Boltholes when we're in a position to move forward with our booking. Thanks! Joel DaltonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Really fast and easy, available on a Sunday to complete our booking. I can’t recommend Juliet at babyboltholes enough, from our initial enquiry right through to booking, she was responsive, understanding and patient. I didn’t even know where to start booking our first family holiday, Juliet took onboard all our needs and found us our dream trip. 5 star service for busy parents!
