Casale dell’Ulivo

Sardinia, Sicily & Aeolian Islands, Italy

Property Overview

0.0 (0 reviews )
This charming Sicilian villa for eight is perfect for parents in search of an Italian holiday by the sea. Despite its rural location, surrounded by undulating countryside, the villa is an easy drive from the coast with rocky beaches as close as 5 minutes drive and sandy stretches only a little further. The property resides in the east of the islands famed for its beautiful baroque towns, nature reserves and beautiful, rugged coastline. We're particularly fond of central Syracuse and its pretty outcrop 'Ortigia' which is just 15 minutes by car. This tiny islet is filled with pretty buildings, lovely restaurants and bustling food markets. In fact, the villa is the perfect base from which to explore all the regions Baroque gems, with the picturesque towns of Noto, Modica and Ragusa all within an hours drive.

The villa itself is a haven for families with lush gardens, a private swimming pool and elegant, traditional interiors. Families can while away the days making the most of the sunshine beside the pool and cooking up lazy alfresco lunches and unwinding to the soundtrack of rich, Italian countryside. For those looking to really relax, the owners can arrange a chef and maid service which leaves families free to truly give in to that holiday feeling!

Location Information

The south eastern corner of Sicily is surprisingly untouched by the island’s tourism and yet the villa is perfectly placed for discovering the UNESCO world heritage towns of the ‘Baroque Triangle’. The villa itself is in a rural location but has a choice of amenities within a short drive. The nearest restaurant is just five minutes drive away and the coast can be accessed within 10 minutes. The centre of Syracuse is again just 10 minutes away and has an array of restaurants, shops, bars, a great food market, and even Roman ruins right in the centre of town. The islet of Ortigia is just off Syracuse and may sound familiar from the luxury fragrance brand. Aside from luxurious toiletries, the islet has plenty to offer, there's a little cove beach, a choice of restaurants, a beautiful central square, and more.

The Baroque Triangle is easy to get to by car and refers to a cluster of Renaissance towns, including Ragusa, Modica and Noto, that were beautifully rebuilt in the late 1600’s after a devastating earthquake. Now listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites the towns not only boast elaborate honey-coloured architecture but also intriguing narrow streets off the main avenues where families can discover atmospheric bars, trattorias, and traditional Sicilian shops. The closest, Noto is just 20 miles away.

Besides the ancient towns, the villa is just a short drive from the coast, where there are many white sandy beaches and coves to discover with Caribbean-clear water for paddling, swimming and snorkeling. The closest sandy stretch is Arenella. For days out, the panoramic Cavagrande di Cassibile Nature Reserve, Pantalica Nature Reserve and the Vendicari Nature Reserve, where hundreds of flamingoes flock on their way to Africa are accessible within an hour's drive. Of course, no visit to Sicily would be complete without checking out Mount Etna, 1.5 hours away, and for a day of full-on family fun there’ a big waterpark called Etnaland which is a big hit with little ones.
