Laid-back luxury and boho
chic abound at this verdant oasis nestling amongst stunning volcanic desert
scenery in Lanzarote’s tranquil heart. A former 18th century farm, Casa Tomaren
now blends its original rustic charms with a mix of self-catering villa
independence and boutique hotel services.
Accommodation is in a choice of seven pretty houses sleeping from 2-8 which are
fully equipped with full kitchens, dining rooms and lounges complete
contemporary comforts such as Wi-Fi (free), DVD and MP3 players. Each of the houses
has is individually designed with a blend of Canarian, Moroccan and Indonesian
furnishing complementing its charming original features including thick ochre
walls, expansive wooden floors open beamed ceilings and romantic fireplaces, complete with starter pack of wood for cosy evenings.
Daily breakfasts are included making for a relaxing start to the day, which can continue with delicious lunches and dinners available for dining-in or takeaway collection from the excellent local restaurant (2kms). Although, since each house boasts a fully equipped kitchen and
comfortably furnished dining terrace, complete with BBQ and lovely views,
self-catering is often preferred, especially since the local supermarket is
just a short drive away (5mins).
The tranquil national park
setting, lush tropical gardens and oasis pool surrounded by cosy day beds, make
for a very relaxing environment especially when supplemented by the yoga, reiki
and massages on offer. Staff are discrete but, when asked, friendly, helpful
and knowledgeable with English well-spoken and a very welcoming attitude to
children, who love exploring the gardens. Cots, highchairs and babysitting are
available on request, as are activities such as bike hire, guided trekking,
wine tours, sailing, diving and surfing lessons. However, for many parents, the
pleasure of seeing their little ones happy exploring the grounds, splashing
about on the pool’s shallow edges or lolling in a hammock, relaxes them so much
they find it hard to tear themselves away from a poolside day bed and getting
stuck into the book they’ve been failing to read for weeks!

Location Information
Thanks to the genius-like foresight of home-grown architect and local hero, Caesar Manrique, Lanzarote has almost totally avoided the excesses of its fellow Canary Islands. In fact, outside of the island’s capital, you’d be hard pressed to find a building more than two storeys high and without a pretty white-washed exterior and Moorish influence.
Casa Tomoren enjoys a tranquil location near the village of San Bartolome
pretty much bang in the centre of the island. Its position, like a tropical
oasis amongst the volcanic vineyards and national park landscape, makes it an
ideal base for exploring the island which is only around 25km wide by 60kms
long. The nearest shop and restaurant are within 2-3kms, whilst the beaches are
a little further but just 8kms away. Past guests recommend several good
restaurants within a few minutes. Most praised is the Casa del Enyesque in San
Bartolome (2kms) whilst families often rate the Pizzeria El Callejon in the
same village.
The nearby village of Tias has a farmers market every Saturday which is brilliant for picking up supplies of local cheese, fruit, vegetables and bread. For more standard supplies there are plenty of supermarkets within 5kms, and a good selection of restaurants within a few minutes drive. Manager, Nacho, is a great source of information on places to visit, shop, drink and eat nearby. He can also arrange or advise on bike hire, horse-riding, sailing and surfing lessons.
For beach days, don’t miss a trip to the Playa Papagayo on Lanzarote’s southern tip. Its white sand beach does have an entrance fee but there are toilets, car parking and a restaurant. The 40-minute coach tour of the Timanfaya National Park, tour of Caesar Manrique’s former home and trip around a vineyard should not be missed. Past guests rate the El Chupadero vineyard for its great wines and tapas.
Getting There: Casa Tomaren is approx. 15kms from Lanzarote’s Arrecife Airport, which is served by low-cost airlines from many UK airports including London Gatwick, Luton, Birmingham and Manchester. BFB findswww.skyscanner.net a useful resource for sourcing flights. Car rental is essential.

After finding out exactly what we hoped for and needed, Vicki was able to find our perfect holiday - we were so looking forward to it and couldn't have been more delighted. Vicki's communication was informative and proactive throughout - our happiness with the arrangements was of the utmost importance to her and I felt I could get in touch with any queries. These were addressed swiftly and efficiently. I really felt like she went the extra mile in helping us plan our holiday and ensuring we were comfortable with all aspects. Highly recommend!! Tori was really helpful in helping us book, manage transfers, etc. On our departure day we had unexpected passport issues - Tori was straight on to the hotel and arranged for us to stay a couple of days later than planned. She was brilliant and really diffused the stress of a heart sink situation. Would definitely book with these guys again. We have never been disappointed, and I have pretty high expectations when it comes to holidays! They respond so quickly to every query and have got us some great deals. I trust them fully with what are such crucial decisions about our much needed holidays and recommend them to every parent I know! I would be lost without them! The matching service was really useful Chris ReddingTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I submitted some basic details on their form on a Sunday evening and Tori got back to me the next day. We exchanged several emails and spoke on the phone. Tori was well informed, responsive and thorough. I was able to book a place that looks great with her help. It was great to have help from someone who specialises in family holidays, as our requirements are pretty different now compared to before having kids. I don't actually think I've ever had a personal service to help book a holiday before. Maybe this is what it was like when people used to go to the travel agent on the high street... Thanks Tori and BFB, would recommend and use again. Jessica TaylorTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I found Baby Friendly Boltholes by doing a Google search, and completed their online form with my holiday requirements. They got back to me very quickly with some great recommendations which were also very cost effective. Unfortunately due to a change in circumstances we're unable to book at this time, but I will definitely go back to Baby Friendly Boltholes when we're in a position to move forward with our booking. I can’t recommend Juliet at babyboltholes enough, from our initial enquiry right through to booking, she was responsive, understanding and patient. I didn’t even know where to start booking our first family holiday, Juliet took onboard all our needs and found us our dream trip. 5 star service for busy parents!
