Belle Vue is a charming, four-bedroom, French farmhouse offering a private, heated swimming pool, scenic views and an idyllic rural location in the middle of the French countryside.
Stylishly decorated with both original charm and contemporary style the owners, having young children themselves, have created a welcoming, child-friendly house. Inside, there is a thoughtful supply of baby gear, toys and books, whilst outside the large gardens open out onto the surrounding fields, offering plenty of space to play. The heated swimming pool is a big hit with adults and children alike. The pool is 11m by 6m with non-slip steps and is safely fenced and gated. In season it overlooks blossoming sunflower fields and is a wonderful place to relax, unwind and soak up the French sunshine.
Belle Vue offers the best of both worlds, located in the quiet, peaceful hamlet of Aubigné yet the house is just a short drive from the towns of Chef Boutonne and Brioux Sur Boutonne, which both offer a selection of supermarkets, shops, bakeries and restaurants. The coast is an hours’ drive away but there’s a choice of family-friendly lake beaches closer to home, many of which offer picnic and play areas.
All in all, this pretty farmhouse offers families a genuine, slice of French country living and is the perfect anecdote to busy urban living. Days will drift by in a haze of relaxation; little ones playing in the swimming pool, parents unwinding over lazy, alfresco lunches and everyone coming together for some quality family time.
Accommodation Overview
The house has four bedrooms, two doubles and two twin bedrooms. The master bedroom with its king size bed, exposed stonework and wooden floor is located on the ground floor with windows overlooking the courtyard. The second large double room is upstairs and accessed via its own staircase. It has dual aspect views of the courtyard on one side and has a Juliette balcony overlooking the swimming pool and views beyond onto the surrounding countryside. The two twin rooms are a haven for children accessed via their own staircase. The first is a mezzanine style room and open to the landing. It has two single beds and houses a large selection of toys and books. The second twin room is accessed past the bathroom (shower room) and again has two single beds. Two wooden cots are also available for guests use.
Back downstairs there is a fully equipped kitchen (dishwasher, washing machine, fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster) complete with an array of cooking equipment, cutlery and crockery (including plastic ones for children). The kitchen opens out into a beautifully spacious dining room with seating for 8 and 2 highchairs. French doors lead out into the courtyard where there is additional outdoor dining. The lounge is comfortable with a choice of sofas and chairs set around an open fire place (logs provided in winter). There is a TV, DVD player and choice of board games, books and DVDs.
There is an additional shower room downstairs and the pool area also has an outhouse containing a beautifully presented toilet and shower.

Location Information
Belle Vue is located just over an hour from La Rochelle (or Poitiers) airport and just under four hours from St Malo port in the quiet hamlet of Aubigné. Aubigné is home to a small park, impressive town hall and church. There is also the quirky addition of a baguette vending machine located next to the town hall enabling you to procure fresh bread daily. For general supplies, shopping and dining out, there are larger, neighbouring towns within nine kilometres (approx. 10 min drive).
For family days out there are plenty of options within a 50 minute radius to suit both children and adults alike. There are a selection of lakes and rivers offering a range of activities such as swimming and canoeing; one even has a waterslide that operates during peak season – Plan d’eau Saint-Macoux (35 mins). Many of the neighbouring towns have markets on specific days of the week. The owners often enjoy the combination of exploring a market in the morning, stocking up on picnic items and then venturing out to one of the lake or river locations for lunch and an afternoon of paddling or water sports.
For wildlife options there is a European wildlife park Zoodysee (25 mins), a Donkey Sanctuary (20 mins) and the popular La Vallee des Singes where guests can get close to monkeys of all varieties (50 mins).
For a combination of water and wildlife Marais Poitevin (60 mins), also known as Venise Verte, is a great day out. Coulon, listed as one of the prettiest villages in France is a perfect place to explore the region. You can hire ‘barques’ (flat bottomed) boats to navigate the green waterways. If you are lucky you might even spot an otter or a kingfisher on your trip.
For beach days the coast is just over an hour away and the owners favourite beach of Fouras is a great spot for families.
For days out exploring there are some great larger towns, cities and popular tourist spots an easy drive away. La Rochelle is always popular and the islet of Ile de Re is a very pretty spot for a lazy lunch. The historic towns of Cognac, Saintes, Bordeaux and Poitiers are also easily accessible.
Nearest airport; La Rochelle (1hr15), Poitiers (1hr05), Bordeaux (1hr50), Nantes (2hr) and Limoges (1hr50).
Nearest ferry; St Malo (3hr50), Caen (4hr20) and Le Harve (4hr50).

After finding out exactly what we hoped for and needed, Vicki was able to find our perfect holiday - we were so looking forward to it and couldn't have been more delighted. Vicki's communication was informative and proactive throughout - our happiness with the arrangements was of the utmost importance to her and I felt I could get in touch with any queries. These were addressed swiftly and efficiently. I really felt like she went the extra mile in helping us plan our holiday and ensuring we were comfortable with all aspects. Highly recommend!! Tori was really helpful in helping us book, manage transfers, etc. On our departure day we had unexpected passport issues - Tori was straight on to the hotel and arranged for us to stay a couple of days later than planned. She was brilliant and really diffused the stress of a heart sink situation. Would definitely book with these guys again. Hannah RoseTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Since our daughter was born 2.5 years ago, we have booked every single trip away with BFB. We have never been disappointed, and I have pretty high expectations when it comes to holidays! They respond so quickly to every query and have got us some great deals. I trust them fully with what are such crucial decisions about our much needed holidays and recommend them to every parent I know! I would be lost without them! The matching service was really useful Chris ReddingTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I submitted some basic details on their form on a Sunday evening and Tori got back to me the next day. We exchanged several emails and spoke on the phone. Tori was well informed, responsive and thorough. I was able to book a place that looks great with her help. It was great to have help from someone who specialises in family holidays, as our requirements are pretty different now compared to before having kids. I don't actually think I've ever had a personal service to help book a holiday before. Maybe this is what it was like when people used to go to the travel agent on the high street... Thanks Tori and BFB, would recommend and use again. Jessica TaylorTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I found Baby Friendly Boltholes by doing a Google search, and completed their online form with my holiday requirements. They got back to me very quickly with some great recommendations which were also very cost effective. Unfortunately due to a change in circumstances we're unable to book at this time, but I will definitely go back to Baby Friendly Boltholes when we're in a position to move forward with our booking. Thanks! Joel DaltonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Really fast and easy, available on a Sunday to complete our booking. I can’t recommend Juliet at babyboltholes enough, from our initial enquiry right through to booking, she was responsive, understanding and patient. I didn’t even know where to start booking our first family holiday, Juliet took onboard all our needs and found us our dream trip. 5 star service for busy parents!
