For as long as we at BFB can remember, Artagnan has had an unshakeable slot on our 'Best Rated By Past Guests' charts. A quick glance at the reviews show a glowing endorsement of the amazing 'family rejuvenation' formula offered by friendly hosts and owners, the Coleman family who live in the barn next door and are completely dedicated to ensuring guests enjoy the most relaxing stay possible in this wonderfully tranquil and unspoilt part of rural France.

The warm welcome begins before guests arrive with a 'travel lightly' service that sees the Coleman's offer to do a grocery and baby supplies shop to get guests through the first two days, delicious home made meals can be arranged for your arrival, subject to availability.
Once guests arrive, they are treated to a chilled bottle of champagne which further adds to the instant relaxation, already greatly assisted by the fact the usual first day food supplies scramble isn't necessary thanks to the pre-arrival shopping service. Day after arrival, at a convenient time, welcome drinks are offered at the Colemans with a selection of the best local wines and nibbles. At this time, mini guests usually get to know the Colemans, and parents gather up tips and advice from Tim and Razia. They'll also get a chance to see the play/crafts area that is open for fun supervised activities and babysitting by Razia and Tim for up to 15 hours a week (max. 4 children usually in 2-3hr morning sessons plus an evening of babysitting). Razia previously worked with little ones in theatre and tries to get a feel for what interests each mini guest so she can tailor activities accordingly. These often include arts and crafts, role play and outside games. All childcare takes place in the open plan barn next door to Artagnan and babysitting is available in the evenings at Artagnan too. This allows parents to plan sightseeing days, spa, sports or just some lie-ins and long lazy lunches, safe in the knowledge their little ones are having fun. The lie-ins can begin as early as the next morning, when there's also a special first day breakfast pastries and baguettes delivery offered by the generous hosts.

Accommodation Overview – Artagnan:

This magnificent 18th century stone house was once home to the 'master of the village', boasting beautiful views that, with the exception of the glistening swimming pool (heated), have hardly changed since. Its current owners, Tim and Razia have renovated the house to a very high standard, giving it a lovely blend of casual elegance and fantastic facilities for pre-school families. Most importantly, and probably thanks to their own experiences, they've given it just the right mix of toys, play gear and grown-up touches that allows parents freedom to relax and feel indulged.

Inside, the elegant building has been tastefully restored and comfortably furnished with a mixture of antiques and local rustic pieces. Many original features have been retained – stone arches and walls, wooden floors and beams. On the ground floor is a living room with a beautiful arched window, a sitting room with a Gascon fireplace, a very well-equipped kitchen/dining room (with many cook books), a laundry room and a separate WC. A large selection of CDs is provided. Also on the ground floor is a double bedroom with en suite bathroom including a separate shower unit, bath, basin and WC. Stylish grab handles have been fitted to the bath, WC and shower for those who may need assistance, making getting in and out a little easier.

The first floor has a double bedroom with an en suite bathroom with a WC and a dressing room, a twin bedroom (beds can be put together to make a double), a twin bedroom with two large single "lits bateaux", and a bathroom with a WC. The high quality linens, bath and pool towels from The White Company that are supplied typify Razia and Tim's commitment to attention to detail in ensuring guests get the most from their stay. The fantastic feedback from past guests is well deserved and a good indication of just how difficult it is to tear yourself away at the end of a stay!
