If the guest book is anything to go by, Dillington Estate in south Somerset is a real gem! This family owned working farm and country estate covers over 3000 acres of beautiful British countryside, just a short drive from a choice of pretty towns and rural villages.
Deciding to share this rural haven with guests, the owners have created a smattering of stylish, family-friendly holiday accommodation from the former farm buildings and cottages. Recently renovated, each offers a luxurious country hideaway for between 4-24 guests. Scattered across the estate, each property sits in tranquil, country surroundings with views of rolling fields and their own private gardens. Large parties looking for somewhere to celebrate something special are in luck as there are several options to choose from. Whether they opt for the charming Dairy House which sleeps up to 16 guests and comes with its own orchard, hot tub, play area and resident chickens. Or something statelier, in the form of the Manor House which sleeps 24 and comes with its own swimming pool and tennis court. Throw in the option for private chef hire and there is everything needed for a truly memorable celebratory holiday!
Whichever property guests choose, they will find themselves transported to a world of peace and relaxation, or at least they will until the kids wake up! Mornings are filled with birdsong and days can be spent exploring the local area which has a great deal to offer from pretty towns and village to family days out. Foodies have a choice of great places to discover from the ever-popular Pig at Combe to At The Chapel in fashionable Bruton.
All in all, Dillington Estate is an idyllic place to escape the toils of urban living and take in some much-needed country air!
Accommodation Overview
The Dairy House is a beautiful, detached grade 11 listed ham-stone cottage with hot tub for up to 16 guests. Recently renovated, the house is rich in historic features which provide the charm, while the luxury interiors ensure it’s comfortable for modern families.
Tucked away in private parkland, the house is a real rural hideaway, cocooned in private gardens that burst with colourful flowers, mature trees and includes a large lawn and private woodland. The property's private hot tub looks out over the parkland and is a lovely place to relax in after a busy day exploring. Little ones will love picking fruit from the orchard or collecting eggs from the chicken coop for breakfast. There is even a climbing frame for little ones to enjoy.
The house is split into two buildings, the main house and the ‘cowshed’ which is a converted barn located a few yards from the house itself.
Despite its size, the house feels wonderfully warm and cosy. There is a good size open-plan kitchen/dining/living room which is a great space for big family groups. It has a large dining table that seats 16 and a comfortable lounge area with a feature fireplace, wood burner. The kitchen is modern and well equipped. It comes with two electric ovens, a large induction hob, a fridge, and a freezer. There is also a separate utility room with a dishwasher and washer drier. Just off the kitchen is a conservatory-style room, which is a lovely place to enjoy a morning coffee overlooking the garden, but even better for a large family feast thanks to the spacious dining table. There is an additional sitting room/snug room which is a cosy place to relax and watch a film in the evening thanks to the 55” TV and Bluetooth soundbar.
The bedrooms are split between the main house and the ‘cowshed’. In the main house, there is a master en-suite bedroom with a super-king-sized wooden sleigh bed. The second bedroom can be made up as a super-king double or a twin room and has an en-suite bathroom. The third room can again be made up as a twin or a super-king-sized double room and shares a family bathroom with the fourth bedroom which is a bunk bedroom. This bunk room can accommodate three if required thanks to a pull-out trundle bed. The bunks are full-sized singles but do have slightly thinner mattresses than the other beds.
The remaining bedrooms are in the cowshed. There are two double bedrooms with zip & link double beds that can be made up as twins if preferred. One has an en-suite shower room and the other shared a bath/shower room with the third bedroom which is another bunk bedroom that much like the room in the main house can accommodate three with use of a trundle bed.
As touched on before, the house has a wonderful garden. There is a lawn for little ones to play, a private, wild woodland for exploring and a lovely fruit-filled orchard. A stone terrace sits off the main dining space and has outdoor dining furniture of meals outside in warmer months.
The house has a parking for up to four cars.

Location Information
The estate is a real rural haven surrounded by beautiful countryside with a wealth of walks and cycle paths on the doorstep. Guests can use the owners local connections to hire bikes and explore the area on two wheels with regular stop offs at the lovely local pubs which are scattered around the nearby villages.
Those hoping for beach days are in luck as the beautiful Dorset and south Devon countryside is an easy drive away (30-45 minutes) and has a choice of family-friendly beaches.
Family days out are easy as there is a whole host of options nearby. Parents with water babies in the family can head to Crewkerne Aqua Centre, which has a great indoor pool, or wannabe equestrians may prefer to try Drakes riding centre which is only a short drive away. For rainy days there’s a soft play centre in nearby Yeovil and Haynes Motor Museum is worth a visit. The ever-popular Wookey Hole with its famous caves and great indoor play areas is also an easy drive away. Nature lovers will appreciate a visit to Axe Valley Wildlife Park which is a small and friendly zoo en route to Lyme Regis beach.
There really is a great choice of gastropubs and local eateries nearby. The owners have a host of favourites they can recommend to guests. We especially like The White Hart in Somerton, which is headed up by the ex-chef of River Cottage and The Pig at Combe which is famous for its great food and sumptuous cocktails.
Getting there: We would recommend guests have a car, as they would be too isolated without one. That said, any additional guests wishing to travel by train have the following options. Crewkerne station is a 15-minute drive away and is on the line from Waterloo. Taunton and Castle Cary are both a 25 minute drive away and on the main line from Paddington.

Colette SintonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We were lucky enough to have Vicki's expertise and support in finding our family holiday in Zakynthos this summer. After finding out exactly what we hoped for and needed, Vicki was able to find our perfect holiday - we were so looking forward to it and couldn't have been more delighted. Vicki's communication was informative and proactive throughout - our happiness with the arrangements was of the utmost importance to her and I felt I could get in touch with any queries. These were addressed swiftly and efficiently. I really felt like she went the extra mile in helping us plan our holiday and ensuring we were comfortable with all aspects. Highly recommend!! MAGGIE OAKLANDTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We used baby friendly bolt holes to book a trip to Portugal. Tori was really helpful in helping us book, manage transfers, etc. On our departure day we had unexpected passport issues - Tori was straight on to the hotel and arranged for us to stay a couple of days later than planned. She was brilliant and really diffused the stress of a heart sink situation. Would definitely book with these guys again. We have never been disappointed, and I have pretty high expectations when it comes to holidays! They respond so quickly to every query and have got us some great deals. I trust them fully with what are such crucial decisions about our much needed holidays and recommend them to every parent I know! I would be lost without them! The matching service was really useful Chris ReddingTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I submitted some basic details on their form on a Sunday evening and Tori got back to me the next day. We exchanged several emails and spoke on the phone. Tori was well informed, responsive and thorough. I was able to book a place that looks great with her help. It was great to have help from someone who specialises in family holidays, as our requirements are pretty different now compared to before having kids. I don't actually think I've ever had a personal service to help book a holiday before. Maybe this is what it was like when people used to go to the travel agent on the high street... Thanks Tori and BFB, would recommend and use again. Jessica TaylorTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I found Baby Friendly Boltholes by doing a Google search, and completed their online form with my holiday requirements. They got back to me very quickly with some great recommendations which were also very cost effective. Unfortunately due to a change in circumstances we're unable to book at this time, but I will definitely go back to Baby Friendly Boltholes when we're in a position to move forward with our booking. Thanks! Joel DaltonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Really fast and easy, available on a Sunday to complete our booking. I can’t recommend Juliet at babyboltholes enough, from our initial enquiry right through to booking, she was responsive, understanding and patient. I didn’t even know where to start booking our first family holiday, Juliet took onboard all our needs and found us our dream trip. 5 star service for busy parents!
